Live Match Preview – Newcastle v Liverpool

In the last of the Premier League games, before the International break, Newcastle take on Liverpool at St James’ Park in a game that sees Rafa Benitez face the team he managed to Champions League glory.

Match ups between these two teams have certainly provided some entertainment dating back over 20 years, since Liverpool’s memorable 4-3 win at Anfield. Both teams were going for the title and the game ebbed and flowed until Stan Collymore finally struck the winner for Liverpool in stoppage time. See Martin Tyler remember the classic game here:

With Newcastle taking a sabbatical into The Championship last year, there was no corresponding fixture, but prior to that they’ve held the upper hand in recent renewals, winning 5, losing 3 and 1 draw. Newcastle won 2-0 the season they got relegated.

Since their return to the Premier League, Newcastle’s home form has been good. They’ve won 2 and lost 1 and sit 5th in the home league table. They lost 2-0 to Spurs on the opening game of the season, but since then have bounced back with home wins over West Ham and Stoke. Last weekends loss to Brighton put an end to a 3 match winning run.

Liverpool’s away form has been mixed, with a win a draw and a loss. They started the season with a 3 all draw at Watford, then got thumped 5-0 at Man City¬† after the last international break, but won by the odd goal in five in their most recent away match at Leicester.

There’s been plenty of goals in Liverpool’s previous away games, so it’s no surprise bet365 are as short as 4/6 in the Over 2.5 goals market. For my fun bet on the match I’ll combine that with both teams scoring, offered at evens by bet365.

Live Match Preview – Brighton v Newcastle

Brighton take on Newcastle at 4:00pm on Sky in a game that last year was played in The Championship. Both teams did well to win automatic promotion, with Newcastle just pipping Brighton to the title in the last game of the season.

Newcastle have started life in the Premier League the better of the two and currently sit a lofty 4th in the table. They didn’t get off to the best of starts, with back to back defeats to first Tottenham and then other new club Huddersfield, but 3 wins on the bounce have seen them rise up the table and they are the form team going into this match. Last season they also lost their opening 2 games and that didn’t stop them going on to achieve great things.

Brighton also lost their first two matches of the season, but haven’t managed to match Newcastle’s results since then; picking up 4 points from their last 3 matches. They are yet to win at home this season and may find things difficult against a Newcastle team that are flying at the moment.

Last season, in the Championship, Newcastle did the double over their promotion rivals, which was their only league meeting in recent years. In the home match Brighton lost 2-1, thanks to 2 late Newcastle goals.

I feel it’ll be a tight game and for my fun bet I’ll go for there being less than 2.5 goals scored at 4/7 with bet365
